T+X, CLK24/CLK12, MDY/DMY and settings menu.

Post by Geoff Quickfall »

Without the T+X function I have to use flags and subroutines to emulate the function. During the testing I set the day ahead and the time ahead.

Since there is no -1h due to the CLK24/CLK12 function in settings menu and no -1d due to the DMY/MDY also in the settings menu I constantly have to move the hours forward. When the hour rolls over the date changes causing me to advance the day through 30 pushes. All this to return to the actual date

I am bringing this up again as I would like to see:

A shift function in settings causing the “minus by one” of +1h, +1min and +1d, +1m, +1y. This would allow the functions CLK12/CLK24 and DMY/MDY to remain in the settings menu and allow a reduced set of key pushes to set the correct time and day.

Or a T+X function.p which on the 41 series altered the time and date (if affected by a large enough time change).

Recommendation to SwissMicros:

Promise to deliver a flash update with the functions Geoff wants, 1 week after The Book is released.

Justification: We all win.

Excellent reference!! This very line occurred to me when I previewed my post - I thought, hey I wonder if anyone else see's that, and then immediately dismissed the idea - nah, I'm just a Trek geek and see Trekisms in many places no one else does. Guess not!

Oh no, not another book thread

Trekkies, mia culpa, I went to a convention ONCE, IN 1986. Bought a basic communicator prop from TOS. Went to the hardware store and purchased a one minute recording device which I installed In the communicator. Added a micro switch and ran it on an n cell. It had the following excerpt from it’s “a Piece of the Action”:

Spock: “Enterprise, this is Mr Spock”

Uhura: “Mr Spock, what are doing on this frequency.”

Spock: “a very long and complicated story lieutenant, notify the transporter room, two to beam up, these coordinates.”

Always gets a laugh when I am asked to make it work when passing through screening at the airports I visit. That dialogue was from the am radio station Spock hacked to call the Enterprise. It has been replaced by my birthday present this year:

Now how about the time and date setting menus getting an overhaul.

Very nice toy. Does it work well?

I've seen the phaser and been able to ignore since it does nothing, but...

It’s fantastic. Had my wife call me when I was scheduled to walk through security. Lots of laughs, but yes, it does everything a Bluetooth ear piece does and more.

I keep the phone in the flight bag, and the communicator in my suit pocket. Had to add the opening beep as a ringtone in the phone. Downside, it is open speaker and all can hear the other side of the conversation, so no private conversations.

So does Siri, 30 Trek sound bights including special effects, voice activated calling...

Now how about the T+X function or a rewrite of the time and date menus??? ;)

:D

Best remake of the original including an absolutely silent spinning moire.

I have both the phaser and TOS Bluetooth communicator from Wand. Both are excellent replicas even without the working features. I have my phone's ringtone set to the communicator hailing beeps from the series. When someone calls, I flip it open and wow people wherever I go. The phaser can fully control a TV but I only use it for the sound effects. Both are among the most screen-accurate replicas available and dirt cheap as replicas go.

OUCH, ;)

But still, any thoughts on the setting menu?

During a test run of a routine I moved the clock one hour (23:00 to 00:00) ahead which took the date and day with it. To return to the correct time was twenty three +1h pushes forward followed by thirty +1d key presses.

T+X would have fixed this in two key presses plus be programmable. My suggested menu would have been two key presses but not programmable.

Anyone?
