As I pulled onto the road I accelerated to about 25 mph when I noticed something fall off the car roof. I have a station wagon with roof rack. As I decelerated the iPad I left on the roof was also flung off the roof to the ground!
Picked up the iPad in a leather hard cover, functional. No marks as the car was almost at a stop when it left the roof.
Walked back and noticed the DM42 on the curb. It was contained in a thin leather 42S pouch when it hit the pavement, then fell out of the pouch on its second bounce and slid about 5 feet, face down. Picked it up, functional, no scratches and my keyboard adhesive fix survived the drop and skid test.
Thanks Swiss Micros. You can add the “six foot drop followed by a 5 foot skid on cement” testimonial to your sales website.
Cheers!

You're living in a country employing real units, aren't you? Or did you buy your equipment south of the border? Making Donald happy? Beware!Geoff Quickfall wrote: ↑Tue Dec 26, 2017 7:42 amAs I pulled onto the road I accelerated to about 25 mph when I noticed something fall off the car roof. ...

Hi Geoff,
one curious question:
What is the "my keyboard adhesive fix"?
(sorry, if this was a joke and I didn't get it...I am no native speaker...)
Cheers!

There was an issue on the beta units with the keyboard bezel not sticking correctly to the unit. See here for the description of Geoff's keyboard adhesive fix.

My car, since 1974 has been a 1973 Celica, which has MPH on the speedometer and is pre metric era in Canada. My work employs feet and knots. My brain is limited to objects that move in imperial I use imperial for my car speeds (2006 station wagon) due to inherent brain muscle memory.
OR
I was too lazy to convert.
Sorry Walter
Yes the loose keyboard bezel syndrome, consider it solved with experimentation proof.

I bought a car from Canada once. My daughter was riding with me in the new car and she noticed I was doing 100. She thought it was MPH but it was KPH. She was relieved when I told her!Geoff Quickfall wrote: ↑Tue Dec 26, 2017 10:17 amMy car, since 1974 has been a 1973 Celica, which has MPH on the speedometer and is pre metric era in Canada. This sounds like the HP 35 advertisement that bragged that it had survived accidental ingestion and ejection by a snow blower. Anyways,it is nice to know that the DM42 has the ruggedness of a Rolex.

I’m surprised you didn’t say you were travelling at 21.7 knots.

Metrification in Canada started in 1970 and officially terminated in 1985.
Typically, old generation mostly uses imperial units, new generation generally only understand metric units and the transition generation uses a mix of system.
When I grew up, I was a difficult kid in a tough neighbourhood and was kick out almost every year of every public school I went.
Some school was using Imperial units while other was using metric units, the result is that I am illogically wired to use both system asymetrically.
For example, I use metric unit for speed but imperial unit for distance.
Sylvain
FYI: since USA is the Canada biggest customer, some work domains never converted to metric. (ex.: construction)
