Hello World!

Post by jgharris »

Hey everyone, this is my first post so I'm excited... I've been poking around this website for months, reading posts and grabbing off images... I absolutely LOVE my dm42s. Yes, I bought 3 of them. I can honestly say this is the first time that I have actually done programming on a calculator. I find programming directly into the calculator and using the Encoder/Decoder page absolutely wonderful, thanks grsbanks! I'm an licensed (EE) engineer in Florida (USA) and when I first heard of swiss micros from the hp museum (of course) I jumped on the idea of an upgrade for my workday beater HP35s (RIP since the display died in anger within 2 weeks of my first dm42 arrival!) that had all the bells and whistles of the 35s or more... & had the modern day upgrades of I/O. I'm impressed I don't need additonal software to communicate, just plug in the micro USB and bam! You're talking. ;)

I'm just amazed that I can enter variable names in a program how I want to name them. The fact that I can have variables in a program named: Vt=Vo+a*t is great! Obviously this is a simplified (physics I equation example but you get the idea....) but I couldn't do this with my 35s. I've written a few SIMPLE programs such as a quadratic formula root solver and linear interpolation. Not as elegant or efficient as what's available to download but a great way to dig into RPN programming. Logan's videos on Youtube have been a great help. I also have written a few programs for my field of protective relaying that makes some tedious calcs easier and quick such as calculating delta line & phase currents in a Delta-Wye transformer (given lowside/wye currents as well as delta and wye voltages. Nice when out in the field and you need rapid & CORRECT answers without having to dig out a laptop... BTW, the custom menu is great and obviously as an EE I need complex maths and the dm42 does it quite well, unlike the clunky 35s. This calc truly is a sleeper and a workday office beast.

Now, for the reason of my post.....

Does Swiss Micros sell any apparel? T shirts? Coffee mugs? I know it may not be profitable so there's that but I love this calculator so much I'd happily advertise for free!! :D

That being said, keep up the good work and a sincere thanks!!! :P

You could always buy a bunch of calculators and make scale mail out of them.

Ough, thanks to Linguee for finding this term - Merriam-Webster doesn't know it. Nice proposal anyway. 8-)
WP43 SN00000, 34S, and 31S for obvious reasons; HP-35, 45, ..., 35S, 15CE, DM16L S/N# 00093, DM42β SN:00041

M-W seems to call it scale armor. Calculator armour would be useful to cover your 5318008.

Without it you might find yourself 55378008...
