It would be nice if someone could produce an Aztech type case for the DM42. They were perfect for the 42S. When closed they were small and protected the 42S. When open they rested and felt good in the hand and set at the right angle when setting on the desk. They were the perfect case. I would love to have some for the DM42.

Do you have some pictures of such a case for hp42 ? I don't see what such a case looks like.

The ASTECH case is fantastic. Perfect for protection in the field.

Here's a closeup of the Hinge assembly. There are two pins that hold it together.

The case is slightly too wide for the DM42 to fit. I was able to get a nice fit
by cutting two lengths of the soft fabric side of Velcro. Put this on each side
of the case. The DM42 slides in and out nicely and stays in the case.

If you look close, you can see the Velcro on the left and right sides of the case.

What do you think of the case I designed, inspired by the ASTECH case?

Looks very nice. What for is the piece protruding in the lower third of picture #3?
WP43 SN00000, 34S, and 31S for obvious reasons; HP-35, 45, ..., 35S, 15CE, DM16L S/N# 00093, DM42β SN:00041

Looks good.

How does it hold up under abuse, drops while open and closed, case opening and closing, hinge reliability?

What price would there be on a porduction model?

That is a latch, to hold the case closed, there is one on each side. There is a matching groove in the cover.
