Re: Calculating tools
Talking of Beep, does anyone remember a story from OMNI magazine about a time traveller who takes a calculator back in time as a gift for Isaac Newton? (I think the calculator was described as having a red LED display and a nuclear battery!)
Re: Calculating tools
I remember a story of Valentin Abillo about such a topic IIRC - the calculator was an HP-10C.

Re: Calculating tools
I think that Time Voyager story would have been a bit too geeky for the Omni audience! I tracked the story down though: Newton's Gift by Paul J. Nahin. It was reprinted in a couple of his books, "Time Machine Tales" and "Number Crunching". (The "Number Crunching" book is mostly non-fictional essays, and probably the most relevant of the two for calculator fans!)

Re: Calculating tools
That brings back memories! I took a couple of electrical engineering courses that Dr Nahin taught. A final exam question dealt with the subject of time travel and the introduction of technology.ijabbott wrote: ↑Sat Feb 03, 2018 11:42 amI think that Time Voyager story would have been a bit too geeky for the Omni audience!
