Nice! Just the earthrise over the moon is missing ...

I tried but was not able to create a nice picture of the earthrise over the moon. Just got plain black and white areas without any subtle details, this type of picture doesn't map well on 240x400 black&white.

Anyway, thanks for trying! Merci bien!

There's room for improvement here, but here's my first try:

Converted image to greyscale, increased contrast a bit, then converted to 1-bit using clustered-dot dithering (pgmtopbm -c3).
This could probably be done better by brightening the moonscape a bit and then applying Floyd-Steinberg dithering instead of clustered dot.

Thanks Thomas! Well, Walter you see what I meant: all details are lost on the moon surface and without its characteristic color, the earth is not recognizable. At the end, for me, the converted picture is not related anymore to earth and moon.

The loss of color does indeed remove a component of drama from this photo, but I believe for most of us the image is still iconic enough to tell its story.

I attempted some selective contrast adjustments before dithering in an attempt to retain some of the detail.

Dank Uw & thankyou, Thomas and David! This view is iconic enough indeed to transport its message even in b/w. Looks like Thomas created some extra stars for the background though. ;) Alas, in reality the universe is emptier than in StarWars by far. Which makes the picture even more meaningful (hi D.T., did you hear that? Still going to spoil this blue marble? And leave the dirty washing to us when you die? Totally reckless!).

Dithering artifacts. I should have tweaked the contrast some more to get the background even darker before converting to b&w. You should have seen my earlier attempts! :D

I confirm the firewall restriction, I don't have access to your pictures.
