Re: 43S News

You might also see it written as: ]-π, π], but I think (-π, π] is the more common style. The round bracket (parenthesis), or reversed square bracket means the value given at that end of the range is excluded from the interval. Whereas a non-reversed square bracket means the value given at that end ...

Re: Benchmark Speed?

A couple of weeks ago, I was reading an old PPC Notes (or something similar), and there was a letter/article about someone doing a large prime number search on their TI-59, and it took about 5 hours. I did the same on my DM42 using a Rabin-Miller prime test wrapped in an outer loop and the whole th...

Re: Benchmark Speed?

Calculators today are a lot faster than 50 years ago! And the DM42 runs somewhat slow in order to conserve the battery. Compare Free42 running on an iPhone, 64-bit code on a fast CPU; the numbers I get for those two benchmarks are 5,593,077 and 481,193. ¡Caramba! Any faster and that machine will gi...

The DM42 definitely IS fast. Depending on the operations you're carrying out, it'll run up to 400x faster than an HP-42S.
Looks like a lot more than 400 times to me!

Benchmark Speed?

Am I crazy or what (my wife votes YES) On https://www.hpmuseum.org/speed.htm there are a couple benchmarks. One for arithmetic and one for trig. I put the following programs into the DM42 and got 21,880 for the Math program and 3,081 for the Trig program! Is the DM42 really that much faster than the...

Re: Thermal Paper?

Finally, it is "normal" for output to fade considerably, even after only a couple months, if the listings are left out and exposed to light. To preserve them, keep them in a file, or book, etc. to preserve the printout. I copy them on my printer's copier. The print comes out nice and dark and the c...
